Covid-19: Suspension of the operation of Land Registries and Cadastral Offices

A ministerial decision was issued on 20/03/2020 ordering the temporary suspension of land registry and cadastral offices all over Greece for the period from 20/03/2020 to 02/04/2020. As a result, all transactions with these authorities, involving both citizens and lawyers, were suspended.Therefore it won't be possible to apply and get certificates, copies of any kind of registrations or registered deeds, cadastral papers and diagrams, nor register any act.

At the same time, lawyers won't carry out any land registry searches.Accordingly, any deadline for the transcription, registration, application, receipt of certificates and copies is suspended, the expiration of any relevant claims suspended as well.

In the meantime, notaries following the instructions of the Notary Association of Crete urge their clients not to visit the notaries' offices but choose to communicate via email or telephone. There is no official general suspension of the notaries' so each case is treated depending on its urgency. Likewise, the tax offices also deal with extremely urgent fiscal issues, which generally do not include property transactions.

Evidently, during these critical moments, every relevant measure is more than necessary despite any delays, downturns or problems in property transfers and real estate market, and all parties involved need to show patience and understanding as far as any pending transactions are involved.
